Pohlstars 06/01/21(Sat)15:47 No.12481 (http://www.chiyochan.net/azu/res/12320.html#12481 ) The profile is a dead ringer for a Mikuru-class destroyer escort. Unfortunately none of the later dates in the pic matches that of any ships in the class. The profiles of the Ukuru-class destroyer escorts look very similar. And among them the best match for the pictures and dates is the IJN Shiga. Either my source or the artist mixed up the Ukuru- and Mikuru class profiles. In the immediate postwar years the Shiga served first as a minesweeper and then as a ferry for US forces between Korea and Japan. Shiga was transferred to the Ministry of transportation in 1947, but in 1949 found herself in the reserves. Presumably that explains the pic of the Jap officer with the whip in the backpack and MacArthur sitting on her shoulder while she delivers mail. In 1950 Shiga gained a new lease on life as the weather survey ship Shigamaru. This phase seems to be illustrated by the background pics of the "handgun" amputation and the ship wading through a storm holding a pen and a chart. In 1954 she was renamed Kojima and used as a training ship for naval cadets. This would explain the pic of the classroom. She was finally decommissioned in 1964, but instead of going to the scrapyard she was bought by the city of Chiba in 1965. From 1966 onwards she was displayed outside the Maritime Public Hall in Chiba. Her retirement days so to speak. Unfortunately this didn't last and Shiga/Kojima ended up as scrap metal in 1998.
