The reason I am Anti-Barney is quite simple... Barney sugarcoats the world, makes it out to be something al ot better than it is, gets kids hopes up, and lets them down. Some parents consider him to be a babysitter, just play the Barney tapes and go out, however, unlike some other television programs, they are not learning anything ofuse. Compared to another children's show, such as Sesame Street, where the viewers of the program learn many skills needed in life (math for one, with the Count), another comparison could be to Blue's Clues (a now very popular children show), Blue's Clues keeps the children alert and watching, not to mention, expanding the imagination. Barney and Friends does none of these... in fact, it does the exact opposite of expanding the imagination, it decreases the use of it, it turns them into lifeless, dull children, when today's youth has the opportunity to do so much more than that, we're relying on these children for the future of our world, and we do not want a world run by dull, uncreative people, we want smart, imaginative and quick thinkers, which could all be a result of the children's televison shows they choose to watch. My reason for being a Jihaddi is to better the future of our children, and, to have fun while doing it, with roleplaying, writing, and such. I joined in December of 1997, my reason at the time was to find other people who had problems like mine... at the time, my sister was about 4 years old and watching Barney and Friends constantly... I found it to be odd and unhealthy, being it was pretty much all she talked about, and had all the songs memorized. I came to the Jihad to get questions answered, because from what the FAQ had stated, these people seemed have the same problems I did. I took some of the advice given, such as try to get her to watch other TV shows, talk to my parents about it, etc., and to this day, it seems to have worked. She's much older now, but, yes, she is a smart young person... the Jihad helped me, and, I have stuck with it to help other people, with problems similar to what mine were, and, I've found the Jihad to be very fun, and a great experience for me.
